SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS BASE PROGRAM
We are honored to have been a part of the Springfield Public Schools BASE Program for almost three years now. The "B" stands for business, the "A" for alternative learning," S" student, "E" for education .The program allows local businesses to give special education students hands on opportunities to learn communication, social skills, problem solving, build confidence, determination, daily life skills, and occupational guidance to fit their needs, The work component is 3 hours a day to allow students to shadow a variety of professions, this allows the students to be fitted to the jobs they have the best aptitudes with and the most interests. Many of these students have been unable to graduate through the normal school system so they get transferred to the BASE Program where with guided support and instruction they are able to find a job and graduate. The students range in age from 16-24, many thought they would never graduate but with the BASE Program they have success.
